Caroline Collective
Debuts Coworking Facility in Houston
Creative
community collaboration space plans Grand Opening in Museum District
Houston, TX (May 26, 2008) This week, the city’s first creative coworking space, Caroline
Collective, opens in Houston, TX’s Museum District. Fueled from an influx of interest from Houston’s creative and
technical communities, Caroline Collective provides a cafe-like community collaboration space for developers,
writers, independents looking for a space to conduct their work in an
environment alternative to the traditional working office.
As the global marketplace continues to free
the worker from a physical location, more and more independent professionals
work as either “digital nomads” or based out of home office. Coworking provides the collaborative and
networking environment of a traditional office space, with the flexibility of a
home office. Successful coworking
operations already exist in worldwide cities such as San
Francisco, Philadelphia, Paris, Vancouver, Milan, and Buenos
Aires.
Co-founders of Caroline Collective, and Rice University
graduate students, Ned Doddington
and Matthew Wettergreen conceived
the coworking space in Houston after
experiencing coworking environments in San Francisco’s
Citizen Space and Philadelphia’s Independents Hall.
“The coworking movement strives to combine the relaxed working
environment of the home office with a dynamic social atmosphere,” explains
Doddington. “The model encourages the free flow of projects and ideas and is
founded on the belief that working together is working smarter.”
With the help and support of business partners and Wulfe
Urban developers Jeff Kaplan and Adam Brackman, Wettergreen and
Doddington secured a 6000-square-foot space in Houston’s dynamic Museum District, one of the
largest coworking spaces worldwide to date.
The facility will supply to tenants private
and shared workspaces, a conference facility, and free wifi, among other
amenities. The space’s south building will be occupied by Artstorm Houston, an
organization founded in October of 2007 to fill the need in Houston for an accessible, approachable and
affordable gallery space for emerging and unrepresented artists.
In order to celebrate the
inauguration of the space, an opening party will be held June 7, 2008, at Caroline Collective. An
invitation-only media hour will begin at 6pm and conclude at 7pm, followed by a the party open to the public
from 7pm -10pm. Special guests include Tara
Hunt, co-founder of San Francisco’s Citizen Space, and Alex Hillman, founder of Philadelphia’s Independents Hall. In
conjunction with the opening party, Artstorm will showcase the opening exhibit
of artist Patrick Turk (see accompanying release.) Libations will be provided by Houston’s own Saint Arnold Brewery, with tasty bites
from Chef David Grossman.
